SOLD OUT-2 Day Exploration Workshop KC March 14, 15
SOLD OUT-2 Day Exploration Workshop KC March 14, 15
I’m excited to finally be able to offer a workshop in my very own studio space! I am so grateful to all who supported me over the years, helping me get to this point. I now have a 1000 sqft. space in KC with high ceilings and lots of natural light where I make functional and sculptural ceramics, iron paintings, fire my work, and even have a small showroom.
Over the past 20 years (on and off) I’ve experimented with clay forms, techniques, and raw materials that really speak my language. I love how clay so sensitively responds to my emotions and touch, and has infinite possibilities in form and surface, and I hope to share what I’ve learned with each of you.
So, the nitty gritty…
It will be a jam-packed 2 days of demonstrations, hands-on testing and discussions that will give you plenty of ideas for experimentation in your own work and will have you rethinking how you go about your own processes and creation.
Over 2 days I’ll demonstrate building thick, solid rimmed bowls, adding texture to surfaces using a variety of materials and methods, creating natural ripped edges and forms that look like they were “born that way.” ☺ I’ll show how to build using super soft clay in sand molds and create cracked dry surfaces using raw materials. Hump and slump molds, adding granite, coffee grounds and other materials to clay and pounding out forms with handmade tools, will all be shown in relation to building bowls, cups, and sculptures in a nature-inspired way. We’ll talk about incorporating these experiments and ideas into both functional and sculptural work.
And of course we’ll tour the studio and take a look at the tools and techniques I use to build, glaze, and fire these different types of work.
We won’t be making finished work in this workshop (way too short of time) but you will be getting your hands dirty and testing out some of the presented techniques and materials. I can’t imagine having you just sit there for 2 days! You’ll be able to take home your unfired tests and a fun tool that we’ll be making in class.
